Textile Gallery

The concept was derived from the colours used in the dyeing process, as well as weaving and embroidery. The design were worked considering the type of display required by the textiles. All the materials used were tested for toxicity, so that any fumes they mitted would not damage the exhibits. Customised signage and installations are part of the design. One of the installations, made of spools of thread, represents an old world connection with textiles and is called " Otni and Balni" after the instruments used to separate cotton from cotton seed. Printing blocks have been framed and displayed on walls, while part of the ceiling has undulating waves of translucent fabric suspended from it. However, there is a " non- flooring' and a " non- ceiling" in most of the space, to accentuate the display cabinets which glow with light. the flooring and beams required attention and fire safety requirements.
